Meta Suffer and Zuckerberg A new setback

The social media behemoth has halted construction of a prototype watch that would have included two cameras.

According to Bloomberg, Meta Platforms (META) – Get Meta Platforms Inc. Report, the parent company of Facebook, has halted development of a smartwatch with dual cameras.

Bloomberg claimed that the social media company is focusing on the development of various wrist-worn devices.Meta Platforms did not respond to a request for comment right away.

Since the launch of the Apple Watch in 2015, Apple ((AAPL) – Get Apple Inc. Report), the iPhone and Mac maker, has been the leading player in the smartwatch sector. Apple now offers three devices that track activity and workouts, take phone calls, and answer messages: the Series 3, SE, and Series 7.
According to Bloomberg, Meta has been working on a smartwatch for the past two years that mimicked its competitors' features such as messaging, music playback, and activity tracking.

The device's prototype would have included two cameras, something the Apple Watch lacks. Meta's wristwatch prototype, according to photographs and a video seen by Bloomberg, included one camera below the display area and another on the backside that would touch the wrist of the person wearing it.

The idea behind the second camera was to allow individuals to remove their watches and shoot images in a matter of seconds.

According to Bloomberg, the location of the second camera interfered with the smartwatch's capacity to translate nerve signals from the wrist into digital orders.
Electromyography is the technical competence in question, and it is a key goal for the social media company.Electromyography, according to Meta, would benefit users since they could use their hands as a "controller" to run other devices, such as those in the metaverse.

According to a blog post from Meta, the technology "is about decoding those signals at the wrist — the activities you've already decided to undertake — and turning them into digital orders for your device."

Working on enhancements and possibilities for Meta's metaverse, where individuals would play games and interact with each other via avatars, is one of Meta's top priorities.

Any wrist sensors could be used to operate their own avatar in the metaverse or to view through augmented reality glasses.

This Monday, Meta informed its employees to halt working on Milan, the smartwatch's code name. The watches were supposed to be sold for $349 in spring 2023.

The Apple Watch Series 7 costs between $329 and $459, depending on the extras.
The halt of this watch's development also comes at a time when Meta is dealing with Apple's new privacy policy. Apple now gives iPhone users the option of whether or not they want to be tracked by companies like Meta. The collecting of consumer data, on the other hand, enables Meta to provide advertisers with possibilities for targeting their potential customers.

During Meta's April earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company was cutting costs by stopping the employment of some executives and focusing its efforts on certain initiatives rather than others. As the economy weakens and people cut back on their purchases, the corporation aims to spend $3 billion less on expenses.

Bloomberg said it saw a prototype of the watch with features like an 18-hour battery life, a removable watch face, dual cameras on the front and back, cellular and WiFi connectivity, workout apps, daily movement apps, heart rate monitoring apps, breathing apps, and Instagram Stories, Spotify, and WhatsApp apps.
