After CNN's online streaming service, which he was contracted to host a show on, was abruptly shut down last month, executives plan to give veteran anchor Chris Wallace a Sunday evening show on the network.
CNN's new parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, is expected to disclose the change at the company's "upfront" pitch to advertisers on Wednesday, according to Axios.Late last year, Wallace departed his long-running role as host of "Fox News Sunday" to join CNN when it launched CNN+, a subscription-based streaming service.
Due to a lack of customers, Warner Bros. Discovery shut down the service after less than 30 days.
"Who's Talking to Chris Wallace," Wallace's CNN+ show, will now be available on HBO Max, according to the company, with sections of his talks with major newsmakers airing on CNN on Sunday evenings.
Since CNN+'s demise, there have been worries about Wallace's future as well as CNN's editorial orientation, which is now managed by new president Chris Licht, who started this month.
"Respectful, real, and compelling interviews are part of the CNN brand, and Chris Wallace is one of the best interviewers in the business," Licht stated during the network's upfront presentation on Wednesday. "Chris and his crew created a captivating and engaging program that we're delighted to offer to HBO Max and include in our CNN Sunday evening programming," says the executive producer.
"Whether it's CNN or somewhere else, I'm in good health," Wallace said at an event last month. "To be honest, what I'm most concerned about right now, and what I'm most concerned about, is my team and hundreds of other people… who worked at CNN+."
"At a time when most news networks are advocacy networks, we at CNN aim to advocate for journalism first," Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said of the network at Wednesday's upfront presentation, according to Axios.
