Kobe Bryant's legendary status in pop culture was acquired by his ability to inspire many others to expect more from themselves and to always have the "Mamba Mentality." Bryant has a lot of rap music devoted to him because of his accomplishments on and off the court.
Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Polo G, and others have all mentioned Kobe in recent months. In his latest album, Kanye West included a choir sermon honoring Bryant. His influence may be felt throughout the music and basketball fan communities.
Mr. Morale And The Big Steppers is the first track off Kendrick Lamar's upcoming album, which will be his first since 2017. The Heart Part 5 is a dedication to Kanye West, Will Smith, O.J. Simpson, Nipsey Hussle, and, most importantly, Kobe Bryant. Before releasing a song, Kendrick Lamar has always published an iteration of 'The Heart Part X,' including a Kobe Bryant namedrop in 'The Heart Part 2'. While rapping the following lyrics, Lamar wears a Bryant deepfake over his face:
The synchronized and crystal clear consciousness. Euphoria is exalted and given to Him.
I'm thinking about my life and what I've done. Changed out of love, paid dues, created rules.
The same beliefs caused schools to alter their curricula.
Namedropping Kobe Bryant is nothing new, but the tributes from the music world have been brilliant since Bryant's untimely death in 2020. A day following Bryant's death, the 2020 Grammy Awards were hosted at the STAPLES Center, cementing a link between the athlete and the music world.
Kendrick Lamar's new album is set to drop on May 13th. It's his first project since the critically praised 'DAMN.' in 2017.
