en. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) joined other Republicans on Tuesday in declaring that if the Supreme Court's draft rule is made official, it will overturn the 1973 ruling that allows for federal level abortion rights, but that whoever leaked the document should be held accountable."I endorse the ruling if the leaked draft opinion represents the final judgment." The sanctity of human life is a cornerstone of the American way of life. In a statement, Romney stated that "abortion laws would be returned to the people and their elected representatives."

"However, the violation of the Court's deliberative process is an unacceptable disrespect to a critical institution that should be thoroughly examined and those involved penalized," the former presidential candidate continued.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) agreed with Romney on both the possibility of overturning Roe v. Wade and the leak being a "breach of trust" intended to scare the Supreme Court.

"If this study is accurate, it is a tremendous win for life that will save the lives of millions of unborn children." But, while I await the Supreme Court's final decision, I am shocked by the egregious breach of trust that this leak represents," Cruz tweeted.

"Rather than reasoned argument, this is a blatant attempt to intimidate the Court through public pressure," he continued. "I hope that my former clerks and the entire legal community would join me in condemning this heinous betrayal of trust."
Mitt Romney may run as a third-party candidate in 2024, according to new evidence (FOX News)According to a draft majority decision published by Politico on Monday, written by conservative Justice Samuel Alito in February, it would invalidate federal abortion regulations and instead allow states to decide on abortion laws on their own.

The high court's decision is due in the next two months, and it's unclear whether the supposed drafting ruling would be used to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Republicans said they would back the move within hours of Politico's story.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) tweeted, "I hope and pray that what looks to be Justice Alito's well-written and well-reasoned draft reflects the Court's majority position."

"I'll say this: if this is the Court's opinion, it's a helluva opinion." Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) described the report as "well-researched, well-argued, and morally strong."

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) called for an investigation into the leaker of the draft rule, as well as his support for overturning Roe v. Wade.

Cotton tweeted, "The Supreme Court and the DOJ must use every investigative tool available to get to the bottom of this leak promptly." "In the meanwhile, Roe was clearly wrong from the start, and I hope the Supreme Court upholds the Constitution and permits states to protect fetal life once more."
