It's been about a month since Will Smith's now-iconic Oscar Slap of Chris Rock, and many people are still reeling. Rose Rock, the comedian's mother, has spoken out about the horrifying incident, calling it a "strike" for her as well.
Rose described her reaction to the incident, which occurred after Chris made a joke about Jada Pinkett-hair Smith's and Will reacted by taking to the stage and slapping him across the face during the live broadcast, in an interview with WIS TV, a local NBC affiliate in South Carolina, where she is from."You went and made her day because she was mulled over laughing when that happened," Rose remarked of the actor's reaction.
Rose informed the source that she typically attends the Oscars with her son, but this year she skipped it for the first time and watched the incident on TV from home. She claims she initially mistook the slap for a joke, but once Will "began yelling obscenities," she realized the confrontation was genuine.
"He slapped all of us after slapping Chris. He slapped me in the face extremely hard "According to Rose. "His speech was barely audible. Nobody could really be in the moment because everyone was wondering, 'What just happened?'"
Rose stated that she immediately contacted Chris following the incident and expressed her admiration for his handling of the matter. Smith's actions in the hours and days after the outburst, on the other hand, left her less impressed. When asked what she thought of the Academy's reaction to the unexpected event, she responded, "I wouldn't take away his medal, and I don't see any good way they could have escorted him out without disturbing." "He never apologized, and it hurts me a lot. I mean, his folks published a post saying, "I apologize to Chris Rock," but you reach out when you see something personal."
