Two former Fifa and Uefa presidents, Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini will face corruption charges when they go on trial in June.

Prosecutors in Switzerland say Blatter arranged an illegal transfer to Platini in 2011 of 2 million Swiss francs (£1.6 million).

It is clear that both Blatter and Platini have previously denied any wrongdoing.

They could face jail time or a monetary penalty if found guilty.

Football's governing body, Fifa, has been plagued by allegations of widespread corruption since September 2015.

This led to both men being expelled from the sport and losing their positions with Fifa's ethics committee, which conducted an investigation. As part of the Swiss case, 86-year-old FIFA president Sepp Blatter is seeking compensation for Platini's work as an advisor between 1998 and 2002.

Platini, 66, was accused by the prosecution of demanding payment "over eight years after the termination of his advisory activity."

According to prosecutors, Fifa paid Platini the sum in question in the first half of 2011 with Blatter's help.

Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini have been charged with fraud, embezzlement, "unfaithful business management," and forgery of documents, according to the criminal complaint.

The trial will get underway on June 8th.
