Mauricio Pochettino is the safest candidate for Manchester United's next manager, according to French football analyst Julien Laurens, although Erik ten Hag is still in the running.
Both Pochettino and Ten Hag's teams were eliminated from the Champions League final 16 with PSG and Ajax, respectively, but Laurens stated that this will not influence United's selection.
On the Euro Leagues podcast from BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: "Ralf Rangnick is aware that his bond with Erik ten Hag will be extremely strong, owing to their shared history and existing relationship, as opposed to Pochettino, who may or may not want him there.
"Ten Hag, in my opinion, is still a greater risk and gamble than Poch. It doesn't matter whether they were both knocked out. You can be beaten by the best team or the worst team, but it does happen, and I don't believe it will have any bearing on who they choose.
"It may be someone else, but I'm sticking with Pochettino because he knows the league and has somewhat more Premier League experience than Erik ten Hag. That must provide him with a slight advantage."
