Following the draw for the last eight on Friday, reigning champion Chelsea will face Real Madrid, a 13-time winner, in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Chelsea's owner, Roman Abramovich, was sanctioned by the UK government and the European Union.

Real Madrid came from behind to defeat Paris Saint-Germain and advance to the quarterfinals of Europe's most prestigious club championship. They have previous experience conquering Europe's most prestigious club competition.

Chelsea's future is still up in the air, with the club expected to be sold in the near future. Until then, it is subjected to constraints that may make the tie much more difficult to maintain.

Current sanctions ban it from selling new tickets for forthcoming games until a new owner is found, and their budget for traveling to away games has been restricted.

UEFA, the governing body of European football, told CNN that it was working with Chelsea on all aspects of the match. The match itself will generate plenty of buzz, with Eden Hazard and former Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti also returning to Stamford Bridge.
When asked about the draw, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said, "The challenge cannot be much higher."
"It's a significant task, and there's a lot of anticipation for this match. We know what's in store, and it'll be a thrilling contest with a challenging challenge."

Tuchel believes that if fans are unable to attend games, it will be a major disadvantage to his team."With spectators, the game changes so much," he added.
Manchester City will play Atlético Madrid, Benfica will play Liverpool, and Villarreal will play Bayern Munich.
The quarterfinals will be contested on April 5 and 6, with the return leg the following week.

During the live draw in Nyon, Switzerland, teams learned about their likely path to the final.

In the semifinals, the victor of the Chelsea-Real Madrid quarterfinal will face either Atlético Madrid or Manchester City, while Benfica or Liverpool will face the winner of the Villarreal-Bayern match.

After European football's showpiece match was moved from St. Petersburg, Russia, due to the invasion of Ukraine, the final will be held on May 28 at the Stade de France in Paris.
